Monteverde Night Life
Monteverde is not generally considered a party town so the night life options are limited. As such in this section we give a small list of what is AVAILABLE but these are NOT necessarily RECOMMENDATIONS.
Bars
Bar Amigos

Restaurant by day, bar/disco by night, this is the largest bar in town and the one anyone will first mention if asked. This is the place where most likely any tourist looking for something to do at night will end up. Most nights will feature an assortment of all kinds of Latin and English music both new and old, but some nights might be themed, dedicated to Karaoke or feature a DJ or band from out of town. Frequented equally by locals and tourists it is most alive during the weekends but is open any day if you want to check it out. Located in the center of Santa Elena it is not hard to find.
Varvilla
The local dive bar. Half bar, half "soda" it is frequented almost exclusively by locals and it's uncommon to find many tourist here except perhaps getting something to eat around lunch time. Music will generally be Latin with Reggaeton and Mexican or Colombian Band Music featured primarily. Generally friendly it can get rowdy at times so be prepared to perhaps go to some other place if you decide to visit and fell things getting a bit heated. Located on the edge of downtown Santa Elena you will not have difficulty locating it.
Beer Garden Monteverde

A small basement bar that unlike most of the other options on this list offers a small selection of cocktails. It closes relatively early but is located under a restaurant so it gives you the option of getting something to eat while enjoying a few drinks. They also have live music on occasions and since they are in the very center of downtown Santa Elena you have the option to move to another option when they close or if you check it out and decide it is not for you. Located under the Open Kitchen.

The Tree House

This is one of the most famous restaurants in town. Built around a large ficus tree it offers a dinning experience you have likely not had before. It's top floor also offers a small bar and frequently features live music of artists from all over the country. An interesting option if you enjoy live performances and are looking for a more relaxing kind of place. Being a restaurant that price-wise is at the top end for Monteverde standards it is unlikely you will find many locals here, but you will likely find people from many other nationalities to interact with. Also located downtown Santa Elena, just look to the giant Ficus tree.
Otocuma Cinema Lounge

Recently opened at Poco a Poco Hotel this option is completely different from anything else in town. Cozy nooks, small artificial streams, fire pits and lots of plants give it an enchanted feeling. Being so new we still can't say much about it, but given the fact it is part of a hotel complex (though available to all and on a main street) it is unlikely it will become very frequented by locals or tourist on a budget. On the outskirts of downtown Santa Elena just ask anyone to point you towards Poco a Poco if you want to check it out.
Julyams
This small restaurant on the outskirts of downtown Santa Elena is know mostly for it's seafood. However it also has a small bar where you will mostly find a few locals who are looking for a more relaxing place than Varvilla enjoying a drink or two. On Friday nights they offer Karaoke which attracts a decent gathering (again of mostly locals) but, the atmosphere is completely different than Varvilla, so if you are into hearing people completely destroy the classics you love (and enjoy doing it yourself) this might be your place. Across the street from the big "Monteverde" supermarket.
